FOG ON THE ROCKS. Tadaa… here is a new set of photos that I am especially proud of. We wanted to try something else for a change and go all arty. Colourful smoke? Yes, please! During our days somewhere in the Finnish woods we had some time on our hands and had the chance to experiment a little. Not only with the smoke, but also with a new lens. Pretty cool, don’t you think?
SILK BLOUSES. Let’s talk summer essentials. I know, I know, it’s August already and therefore probably the last month of summer – at least here in the UK. But it’s not quite too late yet. Summers are certainly all about colours and light fabrics, or so they say. Whereas I fully agree with wearing light materials, I have to admit that I am somewhat insubordinate to the peer pressure of wearing cheery bright colours at all times during the warm months. I mean, is it so terrible to wear black and neutrals during summers? I love my black, my neutral colours, and sure, also the occasional pop of colour. Who else is absolutely over people asking ‘Aren’t you terribly hot in this dark outfit’?
CAMBRIDGE FOR A DAY. It’s been a good week. On Monday I graduated from university with a MA Music Industry Management with distinction. I was so happy that my parents were in town to celebrate this achievement with me. I’m going to tell you all about the graduation ceremony, my outfit and how we spent the day in a different post. So bear with me!
Yesterday Panu and I travelled to beautiful Cambridge, where he was invited as a guest speaker (proud me). Sadly, leaving London for a day is a rare occasion. Apart from the odd trip to Oxford to visit friends, leaving London seems like a bit of a hassle and like a huge undertaking. But I guess that’s typical for people living in the bubble that is London – it’s just too convenient, too comfy and let’s be honest: why would you need to? I wish we would have more time and enthusiasm to travel around Britain, because once you really do manage to get out, it’s usually fantastic.
WELTMEISTER. Wow, what a weekend! Epic indeed. First of all, greetings from Helsinki! I’m so happy to spend some time here in Finland. I arrived last Saturday and kicked off the World Cup finale weekend at a housewarming party with dear friends. Sunday was naturally all about the Germany vs. Argentina match. And what a game it was! I could barely watch the regular 90 minutes and thought I couldn’t get any more nervous, but clearly I was wrong. It wasn’t until the 113th minute and the liberating goal by Mario Götze that I could breathe again. Already then I knew it’s really gonna happen: Germany is Weltmeister! Needless to say that I kinda wished to join the thousands of fans in Berlin for the celebration.
A DRESS AND PINK LIPS. Greetings from Germany! I’m so excited to spend some time in my hometown and see one of my oldest friends finally tie the knot with her boyfriend of ten years. I couldn’t be more happy for these two lovebirds. Also, I’m here to write my master’s dissertation. I’m your typical procrastinator and despite all resolutions that this time it will be different, here I am panicking and trying to fight against the time and the approaching deadline. That’s why it’s important that I have absolutely no distractions and believe me, it’s safe to say that there are no distractions here. So wish me luck!
EAR CUFF LOVE. Let’s all take a moment and praise the awesomeness that are ear cuffs, shall we? I know, this is not the newest of the new trends and ear cuffs have been around for some time, but only now have I managed to truly appreciate these jewelery pieces that can transform an otherwise simple outfit and draw the attention of passersby. This particular one was actually a surprising, lucky find on a rather uninspired stroll through the local H&M. But often great things come to you when you least expect it, don’t they? That, by the way, also holds true for the week I had. I’ve met such inspiring people and I just know that good things are on the way.
CHINESE DESIGNERS. Back in December, when I was in Beijing for a field trip with my university (note to self: finally edit and publish pictures from that trip!), we visited the 789 Art Zone to soak in some contemporary as well as traditional Chinese art and culture. The complex is huge, so unfortunately, we didn’t nearly have enough time to see all the galleries, shops, and performance spaces the decommissioned military factory buildings house. But I did have time to buy this gorgeous coat by the emerging Shanghainese designer DLYANG, which I found in this beautiful store decorated with white-painted branches. I love everything about this coat: the shape, the unconventional structure, the leather details and definitely the black/grey colour combination. It’s so versatile to wear – almost like two coats in one. If you’re visiting the 789 district, make sure to pop by this gem which is tucked away in one of the charming alleys.
ANYTHING CROPPED. This is the outfit I wore to the London Fashion Weekend event. We finally got around to shoot it out in the backyard on a sunny afternoon. Lately I’m somewhat obsessed with crop tops. Perhaps it’s all the rays of sunlight and the Spring kicking in (most trees start blossoming already, yay!). I just think that cropped tops give an outfit a really nice silhouette, depending on the skirt or pants combined with, of course. And with a pair of heels it’s hard to get it wrong.
MY HOMETOWN. I state it outright: Dresden is the most beautiful city in Germany. And if you haven’t been there yet – GO! It is only a two hour drive South of Berlin and makes for a wonderful day trip if you are visiting Berlin. Whenever I go back to visit friends and family, I fall in love with the city’s stunning baroque and rococo architecture over and over again. You can probably see from the pictures the overwhelming and stunning grandness of the old city center.
ERVIN LATIMER. How gorgeous is this handmade bag by up-and-coming Finnish designer Ervin Latimer? His designs perfectly combine functionality with simplicity and beauty. For someone like me, who’s into the edgy and rock ‘n’ roll side of things, this is the perfect bag to wear with any daily outfit. I can’t tell you how tired I am of carrying my uni books and laptop around London in an odd looking hipstery canvas tote bag with the slogan “I’m a free bitch” written on Lady Gaga’s face. Nothing against this tote, but the print does start to faint.
