On Repeat

FRIDAY VIBE. Let me introduce you to a new category on the blog: On Repeat, where I share with you new music discoveries, earworms or oldies that I can’t live without. Wanna hear my confession? Hi, I’m Lydia and I’m an overlistener. If a song catches my ear and I love it, there is no way I can only listen to it once… or twice. Or twenty times. It regularly drives people around me nuts. Can’t help it though. If it sticks, it sticks. Surely, I can’t be the only one with this “problem”?! Anyone?

Owlle is from France and her song Ticky Ticky has everything a pop song needs: a dash of eighties electro beats and a damn catchy chorus. Very catchy. Yet again got a severe case of overlistening. And guess what? I absolutely don’t mind. Perfect song for the weekend!

Bye Bye Summer

THROWBACK. While going through my picture archives from last summer, I found these images that I never got to post. I guess I never did, because they don’t really show an outfit or are that special. But they capture the perfect laid-back summer cabin mood when no one has a worry in the world. We shot them during midsummer in Finland and looking at these images makes me instantly want to take the next plane to Helsinki, hop in a car and drive off to a summer cottage. Luckily this is exactly what’s gonna happen next week. I only need a little bit more patience. Yay to that!

Culture Calendar London – September

AUTUMN APPROACHING. A new month, a new culture calendar. Since chilling in parks with friends is starting to get chilly, here is some inspiration to keep you entertained and culturally in the loop while autumn approaches. Also during September, London has so many great things to offer, which you shouldn’t miss out on. Unfortunately, I will not be able to enjoy most of this month’s events as I am off to Finland for most of it.

Lipstick Love

LIPSTICK SHADES. You have probably noticed my recent obsession with lipsticks. It’s not that my love for bold lips is any news, but there was a time when I preferred a light gloss in neutral shades, because it needs a lot less maintenance throughout the day. But somehow I rediscovered the beauty of a strong lip and make that extra effort to put some lipstick on. I like to keep my daily makeup routine very simple and natural. Usually, I only use a light powder, black mascara and a bronzer to define my cheekbones. But often an extra pop of lip colour can really make all the difference and helps to look more put together.

A Stripey Affair

SILK BLOUSES. Let’s talk summer essentials. I know, I know, it’s August already and therefore probably the last month of summer – at least here in the UK. But it’s not quite too late yet. Summers are certainly all about colours and light fabrics, or so they say. Whereas I fully agree with wearing light materials, I have to admit that I am somewhat insubordinate to  the peer pressure of wearing cheery bright colours at all times during the warm months. I mean, is it so terrible to wear black and neutrals during summers? I love my black, my neutral colours, and sure, also the occasional pop of colour. Who else is absolutely over people asking ‘Aren’t you terribly hot in this dark outfit’?

Culture Calendar London – August

AUGUST SHENANIGANS. July really went by in the blink of an eye. August is here, and with it the annoyingly present awareness to really get the ball rolling in the employment game. Job sites are to be browsed, CVs are to be customized, applications are to be send. Though, it looks like job hunt is a loosing game at the moment. But hey, it’s too early to throw in the towel. Spirits up and finger’s crossed.

Out and About in Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE FOR A DAY. It’s been a good week. On Monday I graduated from university with a MA Music Industry Management with distinction. I was so happy that my parents were in town to celebrate this achievement with me. I’m going to tell you all about the graduation ceremony, my outfit and how we spent the day in a different post. So bear with me!

Yesterday Panu and I travelled to beautiful Cambridge, where he was invited as a guest speaker (proud me). Sadly, leaving London for a day is a rare occasion. Apart from the odd trip to Oxford to visit friends, leaving London seems like a bit of a hassle and like a huge undertaking. But I guess that’s typical for people living in the bubble that is London – it’s just too convenient, too comfy and let’s be honest: why would you need to? I wish we would have more time and enthusiasm to travel around Britain, because once you really do manage to get out, it’s usually fantastic.

Epic Weekend

WELTMEISTER. Wow, what a weekend! Epic indeed. First of all, greetings from Helsinki! I’m so happy to spend some time here in Finland. I arrived last Saturday and kicked off the World Cup finale weekend at a housewarming party with dear friends. Sunday was naturally all about the Germany vs. Argentina match. And what a game it was! I could barely watch the regular 90 minutes and thought I couldn’t get any more nervous, but clearly I was wrong. It wasn’t until the 113th minute and the liberating goal by Mario Götze that I could breathe again. Already then I knew it’s really gonna happen: Germany is Weltmeister! Needless to say that I kinda wished to join the thousands of fans in Berlin for the celebration.

Culture Calendar London – July

NEW BEGINNINGS. Wow, it’s been two months since my last post! Time really flies when you are busy and a lot of things – positive and negative – happen all at once. Finishing my master’s dissertation was the biggest challenge, especially because I’m the worst procrastinator you will ever see. But now it’s done, results are due this week and the graduation ceremony is scheduled for the end of July. I can’t wait to hold that degree in my hands!

Matching Colours

A DRESS AND PINK LIPS. Greetings from Germany! I’m so excited to spend some time in my hometown and see one of my oldest friends finally tie the knot with her boyfriend of ten years. I couldn’t be more happy for these two lovebirds. Also, I’m here to write my master’s dissertation. I’m your typical procrastinator and despite all resolutions that this time it will be different, here I am panicking and trying to fight against the time and the approaching deadline. That’s why it’s important that I have absolutely no distractions and believe me, it’s safe to say that there are no distractions here. So wish me luck!
